In honor of Public Accountant's Day

By: Alejandro García Suárez

The history of this celebration originated on March 1, 1975, at the first National Meeting of Boards of Directors of Associations of Colombia at the University of Antioquia, in which several national organizations of this profession protested against the foreign domination that was affecting national public accountants in their professional practice, hence every March 1st the defense of the rights of the public accountant is remembered.

For its part, the University of Cundinamarca will pay tribute to this profession with activities such as: a discussion on New Tax Trends, a seminar on the impact of the program, a conference on Sustainability Standards, among other academic and integration activities.

From the Faculty of Administrative, Economic and Accounting Sciences, through the Public Accounting Program, emphasis will be placed on the adoption of recommendations to improve accounting habits in daily life, such as:

-Maintain good financial management

-Keep a detailed record of expenses and income

-Establish a monthly budget

-Use personal accounting tools

-Automate recurring payments

-Review account statements periodically

-Save part of the income

-Consult an accounting professional, if necessary, and educate the family about the importance of accounting and saving.

In turn, César Giraldo Duque, Coordinator of the Public Accounting program in Facatativá, highlighted the work of the University Social Interaction team in establishing agreements that allow the institution to reach a wider population, offering guidance on accounting, financial, and tax matters. This approach aligns with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model, which seeks to involve different stakeholders in students' academic development, encompassing the various dimensions of the Multidimensional Learning Field.

What does today's job market demand from professionals in Public Accounting?

According to the Coordinator of the Public Accounting Program in Facatativá, the current job market requires accounting professionals to have a mastery of accounting and tax regulations, analytical skills, and knowledge of technology and digital tools to ensure companies comply with their legal obligations and optimize financial management. Furthermore, they are expected to possess communication skills, teamwork abilities, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning in order to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary environments and meet the constant changes and demands of the sector.

It is important to note that a certified public accountant must possess a range of technical and soft skills, as well as stay current on regulations and technology, to adapt to a dynamic and ever-changing business environment. This professional must be able to analyze financial information, communicate effectively, and be willing to learn and adapt to the evolving demands of the job market to ensure success in their career.
