UCundinamarca's recognition for innovation

During the celebration of the 429th anniversary of the founding of the city of Fusagasugá, the Municipal Administration, at the event "The Night of the Best 2021", awarded recognition in the Innovation category to the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cundinamarca for the contribution made by the Electronic Engineering and Systems Engineering programs with the macro-project: Free Networks as an alternative for social innovation and digital inclusion in the Bosachoque village of the city of Fusagasugá.

The initiative adapts technology and the possibility of offering internet access, with the installation of 20 nodes converted into community wifi zones and with a connection of approximately 500 users, providing digital educational content through the local area network, and VoIP services, with a consumption of 9Gb.

Since 2017, the project has served as a living laboratory where students can gain practical experience, strengthening their professional skills for the near future. Furthermore, it has helped to bridge the digital divide in the rural area of Bosachoque, generating a positive impact on the community.

“This recognition awarded to the Faculty of Engineering in the innovation category is very important for the High Quality accreditation processes that are being carried out with the different programs, because it frames the social and research work that is developed when working for rural communities, since it allows them to access digital educational content, VoIP services, the opportunity to be connected to offer their products and to strengthen educational processes, thus contributing to the transformation of the region through the implementation of the MEDIT Educational Model,” highlighted Wilson Joven Sarria, dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
