Recognition of the CAC, Equity and Diversity

The Cultural Learning Field for Equity and Diversity (CAC) at the University of Cundinamarca was recognized as one of the best practices in Sustainable Development in Colombia for its work in promoting safe environments for women. “We are proud to celebrate that the CAC for Equity and Diversity has been recognized among the best practices in Sustainable Development in Colombia. We remain committed to social responsibility and sustainability,” stated Dr. María Nancy Garzón Soche, Academic Vice-Rector of UCundinamarca, who accepted the award.

The recognition, awarded on August 13, 2025, was made within the framework of the eighth edition of the Recognition of Good Practices in Sustainable Development, an initiative of the Global Compact and the Chamber of Commerce that highlights the actions of business and non-business organizations —academia, NGOs and the public sector— that contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.

The application was submitted by the Directorate of University Social Interaction, through the area of University Social Responsibility, in accordance with the institutional guidelines of social responsibility and sustainability, as well as with the commitment of UCundinamarca to act as an active agent in the construction of territories where gender equality, human dignity and democratic rights are pillars of university life.

This recognition highlights the innovation, management, quality, impact, and long-term sustainability of the practice, as well as its relevance to the communities. The work is led by the Equity and Diversity area, part of the University Welfare Directorate, and integrates preventative, educational, and support actions aimed at eradicating gender-based violence and fostering a university culture of respect for diversity, under the motto "Promoting Safe Environments for Women.".

Among the CAC's most relevant actions are awareness campaigns, training courses, workshops, comprehensive support, and dialogue spaces that promote the empowerment of women, students, and administrative staff. Also noteworthy is the active implementation of the Protocol for the Prevention and Care of Sexual and/or Gender-Based Violence, ensuring timely, empathetic, and effective care.

The University of Cundinamarca recognizes that addressing current challenges requires profound transformations in education and institutional culture, especially in social contexts marked by inequality, exclusion, and violence. Therefore, it reaffirms its commitment to inclusive education, respect for diversity, and the creation of safe environments as the foundation for a more equitable and sustainable society.

This achievement reaffirms the institutional commitment to the 2030 Agenda, gender equality and the construction of safer and fairer territories for all people, strengthening from academia a culture of dignity, peace, equality and respect for human rights.
