Professor graces the Girona Costa Brava Guitar Festival (Spain)

León Salcedo, teacher and coordinator of the research area of the Music program, presented a classical repertoire of Latin American literature and new compositions.

León Salcedo, a versatile musician and arranger in Latin America and the United States specializing in classical, jazz, and popular music, graced the XV Girona Costa Brava Guitar Festival, In Spain, he presented a concert of classical Latin American works for the instrument and new expressions from young composers in the region.

Salcedo, a professor at the University of Valladolid and coordinator of the research area of the Music program, Zipaquirá Extension, also presented a paper on “Latin American Repertoire for Violin and Guitar 20th and 21st Century” at the Viader Auditorium of the House of Culture in Girona, Catalonia province, as part of the international event.

This guitarist, soloist, and composer was born into a family with a musical tradition. He received his first guitar lessons from his mother, and later his teachers Alejandro Montoya and Martin Pedreira in Colombia and Havana (Cuba) finished shaping his talent.

León, Master in Guitar Performance from Carnegie Mellon University and with a musical career of more than ten years, has worked with composers Leonardo Balada, Tulio Peramo and Alfredo Diez Nieto.

Among her achievements, it should be noted that she premiered Strange Loops by New York-based composer Julian Evans, and Abberations from Pittsburgh (USA). She also performed in the workshop premiere of Doctor Faustus, a project by composer Christian Kriegeskotte and the Pittsburgh Opera.

His experience in musical education is evident in music schools and in the faculties of higher education institutions such as the District University of Bogotá, the University of Cundinamarca, the Technological University of Pereira, and the National Youth Orchestra of Colombia.

This musician from Udecino has also received awards from Colombian organizations such as the Ministry of Culture, Idartes and the Pereira Institute of Culture, and a scholarship at Carnegie Mellon University.
