Application of Law 1581/2012" will be held, led by the Information Security Management System – SGSI of UCundinamarca and with the participation of the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce – SIC.

“To celebrate the institutional day of the protection of personal data, within the framework of the closing of the campaign “Your data is not a game – version 3 – Strengthened in Pandemic”, explained engineer Edilson Martínez Clavijo, Personal Data Processing Officer.

The entire university community can participate after registering at the following link: https://bit.ly/3suMHub and for two hours learn from experts and clarify doubts about personal data, a relevant topic today.

“This discussion will feature experts from the SIC, as the national regulatory entity, and will provide a space for the UCundinamarca community to learn about Personal Data Protection, in accordance with current legal regulations.”.

What is personal data?

According to the SIC, it is important to know the Personal Data Protection Law, since it "recognizes and protects the right of all people to know, update and rectify the information that has been collected about them in databases or files that are susceptible to processing by entities of a public or private nature.".

Personal data refers to information about each person, such as: place of birth, identity document, age, address, telephone number, among others that can be much more sensitive such as health status, physical characteristics, political ideology, sexual life, among others.

The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) classifies different types of data, as well as outlining how to protect them and what to do if data protection rights are violated. These topics, and more, will be discussed at the forum next Thursday, September 9th.
