Open competition for diplomatic career

With the aim of consolidating a more diverse and inclusive Diplomatic and Consular Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the call for applications for the 2026 Diplomatic and Consular Service Entrance Examination. Resolution 8056 of August 2024 approved the call, which this year invites professionals who reflect Colombia's diverse identities and cultures to participate within the diplomatic corps.

In accordance with the announcement made by Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo, this public merit-based competition will select the group of professionals who will participate in the 2025 Diplomatic and Consular Training Course, from which a maximum of forty (40) officials will be chosen to enter the Diplomatic and Consular Service. The call for applications will be extended to all 32 departments of the country, as well as the Capital District, and four cities abroad: Madrid (Spain), Miami (United States), New York (United States), and Esmeraldas (Ecuador).

In addition, for the first time, applicants will have access to online preparatory courses, open to those both within and outside the country. Furthermore, knowledge of one of the country's 68 native languages can be accepted as a third language requirement.

The application period is now open, and registration will be open from 8:00 a.m. on December 2nd until 5:00 p.m. on December 9th of this year. The requirements to apply are: being a Colombian citizen by birth and not holding dual nationality; possessing an officially recognized university degree issued by an institution of higher education; speaking and writing fluently in Spanish and another language used in diplomacy; and not being barred from holding public office or suspended from practicing one's profession.
