Olympic Chair

With the purpose of promoting the study of Olympism and sport in general within the academic community, UCundinamarca and the Colombian Olympic Committee are launching the inclusion of the Olympic Chair in the curriculum of the sports science and physical education program.

The proclamation of the Olympic Chair took place at the Soacha Extension with the participation of

Alberto Galvis, communications director of the Colombian Olympic Committee, David Cañón, director of RCN Sports for more than 40 years, Constanza Castellanos, director of the Olympic Academy and Orlando Blanco, Academic Vice-Rector of the University of Cundinamarca.

During the proclamation event, the importance of understanding the history of sport beyond its purely health-related aspects was highlighted, emphasizing how sport is a vehicle for change within social dynamics.

Likewise, the importance of students and professionals in the field having knowledge of the history of Olympic sport, sport in the current world and the Paralympics was highlighted, since within the policies of inclusion it is increasingly urgent to develop these topics in greater depth.

“The proclamation of the Olympic chair is the symbol of the union with the Olympic Committee, which is the living representation of the history of sport in the world, with academia,” said Fernando Ardila, Coordinator of Sports Science and Physical Education at the University of Cundinamarca.
