In the auditorium of the Girardot branch, the Nursing program held the "Ceremony of Light" on March 20th, a symbolic act that will outline the initiation, vocation and values of the professional work of the future nurses of the fourth semester, belonging to the subject Practical Procedures of the Person.
The traditional ceremony, which holds special significance and is held every semester, was attended by 26 students. This ritual, which begins with the passing of a candle's light between faculty and nursing students, involves each student taking a portion of the light carried by their teachers to receive it and use it as a symbolic guide in nursing care within a hospital setting.
The passing of light between participants originated with the English nurse Florence Nightingale, a pioneer of modern nursing, who carried a small lamp to care for the wounded in combat during the Crimean War, which was fought between 1853 and 1856 (currently disputed territory between Russia and Ukraine).
Likewise, 35 third-semester students from the Community Processes course participated in this symbolic event. This group's mission will be to develop planned comprehensive healthcare activities for vulnerable communities, promoting healthy habits and lifestyles to improve their quality of life.
The event was presided over by the Nursing program coordinator, Sandra Carmona, and faculty members Hugo Ramírez, Alejandro Salamanca, Carolina Díaz, Martha Bastidas, Carolina Gómez, among others. Family and friends from the University of Cundinamarca's educational community also attended.
