“The practice contributes to the comprehensive training of the nursing student, based on pillars of humanization of the adult, and to the development of health promotion and disease prevention programs in this type of population, in addition to encouraging the nursing student to develop care alternatives to contribute to the adoption of healthy behaviors and attitudes in the adult,”, explained Lina Marcely Bazurto, Professional Nurse and Teacher of the Center.
Each semester, the students' practice is oriented through the Thematic Core: Nursing Care in Old Age (Senectus) with 65 elderly adults belonging to the Home for the Elderly in the city of Girardot.
On this occasion, the students held a pageant for the grandmothers, a fun-filled activity characterized by joy, entertainment, camaraderie, dancing, and recreational games among the senior citizens. The winning grandmother queen was chosen for her charisma among the group; her warmth and friendliness shone through in her face and demeanor.
Through these leisure, recreational, playful and integration activities, sixth-semester Nursing students at the Girardot branch strengthen their knowledge of self-care for adults and the elderly who live with chronic and critical illness, in their hospital, institutional, home and community context in an inter, trans, multidisciplinary and intersectoral manner.
