Mobile nursing practice

Thanks to the efforts of the Girardot branch and an investment of one billion pesos for the adaptation of the laboratories and acquisition of equipment, the students were able to begin their nursing practices, said Juan Carlos Méndez Forero, administrative director of the branch.

The director emphasized the importance of opening these activities, noting that the academic calendar and curriculum development will not be delayed.

Teachers and students participate in the activities with complete peace of mind because “we have biosafety protocols endorsed by the Municipal Mayor's Office and the Health Department to carry out simulation practices in the nursing laboratories,” said Nicolás Lugo, Occupational Health and Safety Manager. He explained that the branch currently has 6 handwashing and disinfection stations, more than 65 disinfection points with 70% antibacterial gel, classrooms and laboratories with social distancing of at least two meters, demarcated work areas, and that all teachers and students have been informed about the protocols to ensure a healthy and COVID-19-free work environment.

For her part, Lucia Timote Jiménez, coordinator of the nursing laboratory and simulation, stated that the alternating plan has been a success: “We have 60 students per day and there are five simulation rooms for carrying out these practices.”.

In these laboratories, students carry out essential practical exercises for their training, such as surgery, CPR, childbirth assistance, newborn assessment, and adolescent assessment, among others. Student Melany Méndez stated that she and her classmates are happy and grateful to UCundinamarca for this initiative, which allows them to learn and put theory into practice.

“The students in this program were provided with everything they needed, while maintaining all the necessary biosafety conditions,” the administrative director concluded.
