Human rights: part of professional training?

On November 8 and 10, at the Fusagasugá campus, the Faculty of Health Sciences successfully held the First International Congress on Nursing Care and the V Ethics Seminar “Caring for Life is Everyone’s Responsibility”; an academic event that brought together more than 300 people from the health field and from the Sumapaz and Alto Magdalena provinces of Cundinamarca.
“This is an academic opportunity to build knowledge networks, share research experiences, and exchange expertise to reframe problems, generate strategies, and propose interventions to address the challenges of current nursing care worldwide,” highlighted Ricardo Acosta Medina, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, during his welcoming remarks to the attendees.

The academic event aimed at students and health professionals presented 20 papers and covered topics related to nursing care and clinical practice, chronic disease and critical condition, and ethical determinants that guide care and themes for the challenges of nursing in the 21st Century Generation.
The congress was opened by Peruvian María Isabel Peñarrieta, who highlighted a binational project between Mexico and Peru on the importance of self-management for people with chronic conditions, and urged UCundinamarca to join the Latin American chronic research network to promote, from these spaces, the way of doing and seeing good care practices in populations with chronic diseases.
It is worth noting that the thematic line: “Nursing Care and Practice in the Person with Chronic Illness”, was led by nurse and specialist Luis Fernando Giraldo, from the Kennedy West Hospital, with the presentation “cWound clinic, competencies of the nursing professional.”.
The presenter Olga Janneth Gómez Ramírez, PhD nurse, and professor at the National University, presented the topic: “use of evidence in the implementation of intervention for care in chronicity.
The thematic line “Cognitive and functional stimulation program for the elderly with limitations in the home environment” was led by nurse and specialist Adriana Hernández, a teacher with special ties to UCundinamarca, and María Victoria Rojas, a career teacher at the Institution.
On the other hand, nurse and PhD Madeleine Cecilia Olivella Fernández, and professor at the University of Tolima, covered the thematic line “care and nursing practice from ethics and bioethics”,
It is worth noting that the international congress took place in the Emilio Sierra auditorium and was led by the Faculty of Health Sciences, directors and professors of the Nursing program of the Girardot branch.
