The branch director, Juan Carlos Méndez, and the Human Talent manager, Rubén Darío Bonilla, along with the business administration professor, Hernán Rodríguez Caballero, and the University Welfare office, organized the nighttime bike ride as a demonstration of their commitment to the sustainable development that has been working on at the branch.
With these initiatives, the University contributes to improving the environmental conditions of the municipality and the planet, since using a bicycle reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.5 kg for every 5 kilometers traveled, according to global standards.
The chosen route was 7 kilometers long, and according to the measurements above, the bike ride reduced CO2 emissions by 2.1 kg per person, for a total of 46.2 kg. It should be noted that 22 members of the academic community participated in this event.
University and branch officials hope that this event will not be limited to a single night during the semester but will become a daily practice because exercise is also beneficial for health, as it reduces stress levels, tones muscles, oxygenates the brain, strengthens the heart, combats obesity, and generally improves physical and mental health.
