New undergraduate program in Soacha transforms the topography

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

The institution is committed to educational innovation with its new Topographic and Geomatics Engineering program, now available at the Soacha campus. This academic offering, unique in the region and offered by only two universities in the country, aims to train professionals capable of transforming the land through geoscientific analysis and the use of advanced technologies.

This new undergraduate program focuses on developing sustainable solutions for land management, using geospatial data, digital mapping, cadastre, geographic information systems (GIS), and other key technological components for the future of the country.

Jorge Enrique Guerrero Ruiz, the program coordinator, explained that this is a great opportunity for young people who have an affinity for mathematics, geometry, and physics, and who are interested in abstractly representing the territory and its spatiotemporal dynamics. “It is a privilege to lead this training, especially in a country where institutions with this academic offering are scarce,” he stated.

Aimed at those who wish to specialize in areas such as planimetry, altimetry, geodata and cadastre, this program is aligned with the current challenges of urban, rural and environmental development in Colombia.

The Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. John Alexander Moreno Sandoval, emphasized that this initiative marks a milestone in the training of transhumanist professionals, equipped with cutting-edge tools. “With this program, we are expanding access to higher education and strengthening regional talent with a technological and sustainable approach,” he added.

Registration is open until May 15, 2025, and the first group of students will begin classes in August, during the second academic term of the year. All information about the program and the registration process is available at the following link: https://goo.su/ssldf

This new program reflects the University of Cundinamarca's commitment to regional development, the strengthening of public education, and the commitment to relevant, innovative training aligned with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT) and the needs of the 21st century.
