New leadership in research

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

The University of Cundinamarca introduced engineer Edgar Eduardo Roa Guerrero as its new Director of Research, who will take on the challenge of strengthening scientific production, innovation, and connecting knowledge with local communities. With a distinguished academic career, Roa Guerrero has led significant initiatives within the Electronic Engineering program at the Fusagasugá campus, developing projects that bridge the gap between science and real-world needs.

In her new role, she will promote strategies to connect the university with the business sector, the government, and the community. She will also foster the growth of student-led technology ventures, participation in Minciencias royalty grant programs, and the strengthening of the university's publishing arm, along with the indexing of its scientific journals.

“We want research to have a real impact. We want our projects to generate development, sustainable solutions, and leave a mark on the region and the country,” the new director stated.

Among the projects he has supported are initiatives such as solid waste management systems for the Fusagasugá market square, identification of animal fats, and electrical grids implemented in municipalities of Cundinamarca—experiences he now seeks to expand through the Research Directorate. He also invites the university community to participate through research groups, the university's core functions, and internal and external calls for proposals.

“Knowledge must transcend the classroom and become a tool for social transformation,” Roa said, highlighting the role of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT) in the training of scientific leaders.

With this new leadership, the University of Cundinamarca reaffirms its commitment to research-based education that is relevant and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting innovation, collaboration, and national and international projection.
