The new semester of 2021-I brings changes to the Public Accounting program at UCundinamarca, one of which is the appointment of Catherine Ninoska Guevara Garzón as program coordinator. Experience and commitment will be key to her role.
However, Guevara Garzón is no stranger to the program, having worked as a teacher for some time, which is why she is familiar with it and knows from her experience how she can contribute to the students and the Institution.
The new Coordinator is a Certified Public Accountant from the San Martín University Foundation, a Fiscal Auditor from the Nueva Granada Military University, holds a Master's degree in Organizational Administration from UNAD, and is a Hotel Administrator from INPAHU. She arrives with a fundamental challenge: "to maintain the program and take it to a new level with the renewal of its accreditation. This challenge is not only my responsibility, but also that of everyone involved in this process, from the students and the teaching staff to the university and local businesses. I am simply a servant," she stated.
For Catherine Ninoska Guevara Garzón, the most important skill a public accountant must have is comprehensiveness in every sense of the word. This encompasses vital aspects such as ethics, values, commitment, responsibility, negotiation, creativity, leadership, and technical knowledge, among others, because an accountant is the central figure in the economic entities they will advise, and their responsibility is to society itself.
The values that Guevara Garzón believes a professional Public Accountant should have can be achieved through perseverance, constant training, and a desire for self-improvement in every aspect.
“Organization, leadership, empathy, experience, and practicality are strengths that are evident in every aspect. Furthermore, he acknowledges that his greatest contribution to students has been through experience; play and games have been pillars.“
"To implement strategies that can be carried out more didactically, moving from theory to practice, enabling the student to autonomously achieve the skills required in this new challenge," said the teacher.
Experience and competence
Catherine Ninoska Guevara Garzón has been a university research professor who has worked with the universities Fundación Universitaria San Martín, UNAD, Unidades Técnicas, Universidad de Cundinamarca, Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, in the subjects of General Accounting, Tax Law, Audits, Fiscal Auditing, Environmental Accounting, Management and Strategic Planning, Production Budgets among others, with emphasis on research.
In addition, she has developed educational resources in a virtual environment for Financial Statement Auditing with Universidad del Bosque, and was a leading researcher in a research group with publications and presentations in Colombia as well as in indexed journals in Ecuador, Mexico, and Bulgaria. For the past 14 years, she has worked as an accounting and tax consultant and statutory auditor for companies in the poultry and livestock sector in Sabana Centro, Colombia.
