National Assembly of Rectors in Cali

On May 12, the National Assembly of Rectors of the State University System – SUE was held in the city of Cali (Valle del Cauca), bringing together the 32 Colombian public institutions, with the aim of designing a model for the distribution of financial resources in order to improve the quality of universities in the country.

Historically, the funding of Colombia's public universities has been a key issue. "From the SUE (National System of Universities), we must come together to make a proposal to the National Government to achieve a better distribution of resources," explain the participating university presidents.

Of course, our institution was represented at the meeting by Rector Adriano Muñoz Barrera, Vice-Rector of Administration and Finance Miryam Lucía Sánchez Gutiérrez, and Director of Institutional Planning José del Carmen Correa Alfonso, who raised the need to improve resources in order to offer high-quality and competitive education, whose professionals are capable of transforming society.

Listen to the speech by the Rector of UCundinamarca at the General Assembly of Rectors of the SUE in Cali:

“If we review the nation's transfers, we can say that the University of the Andes is more public than any other institution, because it receives 49 billion pesos from the State, compared to The University of Cundinamarca only receives 17 billion pesos to educate more than 13,000 students in 7 municipalities of Cundinamarca.

”This worries me, and that is why I am calling on the SUE to take a stand in defense of the distribution of resources, and to close the gap with the Public University,“ stated Rector Adriano Muñoz Barrera, who also maintained before the participating rectors that “public universities must make themselves visible through the defense of this type of education. Programs like Ser Pilo Paga are nothing more than a mechanism to defund public universities. of the country.”.

The Rector of UCundinamarca urges that “all public universities should be accredited and that the distribution of resources should strengthen this process,” and argues that “UCundinamarca expects that in this distribution, the resources will be used for operations, since our institution only has 30 full-time professors. Therefore, we must distribute resources equitably.”.
