Music research conference in Zipaquirá

The third Musical Research Day was held in Zipaquirá with the presentation of research on music from ancient to contemporary music.

Zipaquirá hosted the third Day of Research and Musical Creation, in which teachers from the University of Antioquia, UCundinamarca, the Fine Arts Foundation of Medellín, a representative of Culture from the state of Hidalgo (Mexico) and a student shared presentations on various lines of research in the field of music.

“We are working on redefining the music program and we understand that the life of an artist is not just about playing an instrument; research is a fundamental part of art,” said Darwin Andrés Díaz Gómez, dean of the Faculty of Humanities.

Likewise, Carlos Lucio García, representative of the Secretariat of Culture of Hidalgo (Mexico), praised the holding of this type of specialized event in musical research, given that they are scarce in Latin America, and that this type of academic meeting gives researchers the opportunity to disseminate their research work and motivates students to join research groups.

García believes that applied research in the field of music offers the possibility of producing scientific articles, but it can also be realized in concerts, through which wider dissemination can occur. This is because when a performance is given to an audience, or when a recording is made and distributed via digital platforms, this type of research can be shared more broadly. He also encourages students to conduct research and apply to international exchange programs to further their cultural enrichment.

On the other hand, one of the participants in the day was Juan Camilo Toro Echeverri, a professor at the University of Antioquia and a Doctor of Arts, who presented his paper on musical rhetoric as an analytical-interpretive tool.

Dr. Toro extends a special invitation to students to promote the creation of an academic community around musical research and creation, and to higher education institutions to strengthen academic spaces, such as the one developed in this session. He emphasizes the need to generate greater awareness among the various universities that have professional music programs regarding research and the time involved in its implementation.

He also emphasizes that music professionals in Colombia have a fundamental role in society that is more transcendental than simply teaching music, and he encourages students to strengthen their relationships with their colleagues and to spread music, art, and culture throughout society.
