Mark your calendars, the Latin American Workshop is coming!

Entrepreneurship and innovation will be the focus of this streaming event. This meeting is organized by the Faculty of Engineering. “The strategy of the Latin American Workshop: Dialoguing in the World of Software, "It provides the academic community with the generation of new knowledge and experiences in the area of software development and computational thinking. Additionally, they share experiences with various national and international expert participants," said Wilson Joven Sarria, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

According to Ana Lucia Hurtado Mesa, coordinator of the Systems Engineering program – Ubaté branch, during the day students will be able to participate in programming marathons individually on the international platform Vjudge.net.

“Participation in marathons has allowed students to improve their skills in handling a second language, understanding exercises and competitive spirit since climbing in the ranking strengthens their confidence and skill,” added the coordinator.

For his part, Eduard Neftali Gutiérrez, coordinator of the Engineering program at the Chía Extension, stated that: “the experience encourages students to reflect on their training process. Furthermore, it strengthens teamwork when developing solutions to real-world problems.”.

The coordinator also stated that thanks to this workshop strategy, the Faculty of Engineering was able to participate for the first time in 2019 in competition with the Colombian Programming League CCPL with 12 teams each made up of three students.

This important meeting strengthens the training and learning process based on intensive training with experts where theory is grounded and linked with a practical and competitive phase, allowing the student to identify which topics they are strong in and which they need to strengthen.

This year, the goal is to surpass the participation of previous meetings by taking advantage of the support of technologies, "during 2019 we had 257 and in 2020 there were 1975," explained the Engineering Coordinator of Ubaté.

In conclusion, the dean stated that this life experience requires participants to internalize the knowledge imparted in the classroom and put it into practice in a competition. Furthermore, it fosters interaction among participants, generating an exchange of information in order to solve technical and complex problems and promote a climate of feedback, collaboration, and commitment among the different participants.
