This is a production from the institution's music program, where every detail was carefully considered to delight the capital's audience last night. With musical and stage direction by maestros Sebastián Pineda, Luz Nelly Venegas, and Oscar Herrera, the workshop explores a staging based on the myth of LLa Llorona.
María, a humble seamstress, is pressured into marrying Antonio, a former captain in the liberating army. Antonio must return to the city to train new soldiers and help quell the bipartisan uprisings, but he disappears in battle and is presumed dead. Some time later, María meets a young soldier, Martín, with whom she has an affair and becomes pregnant. However, in the midst of a terrible storm, María learns of her husband's return. In her panic and confusion, she and her unborn child are swept away by a flash flood. Since then, the terrifying apparition of a specter searching for her child haunts the unwary who travel along the paths.
