During the First Departmental Poultry and Swine Symposium organized by the Fusagasugá branch of the University of Cundinamarca, the main benefits and economic aid that the national government is providing to the sector due to the current pandemic were announced.
There are several important figures that reflect changes in consumer behavior, and for which measures had to be taken to prevent farmers and merchants from continuing to suffer large losses amid the global health emergency.
For example, statistics show that during the first half of this year, chicken production fell by 15.1%, with 783,546 fewer tons produced compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, egg production increased by 8.051 billion units in the first six months of 2020, representing a 14.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Watch the virtual symposium here.

Dr. Yesenia Cruz, a veterinarian and field professional for the technical program of the National Federation of Poultry Farmers for the Cundinamarca, Amazonas and Vaupés area, gave the virtual conference, "Sanitary Requirements for the Certification of Small and Medium Poultry Farmers.".
There, he addressed the economic benefits and strategies to counteract the effects of the Covid-19 disease in the field.
These aids are aimed at strengthening the sector in terms of circulation rights for production chains, marketing and acquisition of food, price control, supply coordination, production support programs or for agricultural inputs among others; in addition, there are nationwide virtual training sessions on economic issues, sustainability, biosecurity, technical issues and health.
The National Federation of Poultry Farmers of Colombia (Fenavi) and the Ministry of Agriculture were the main guests and were responsible for announcing the good news for the region, which can now be viewed online at each entity. See the second part of the symposium here.
