By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

On March 3rd, the Facatativá extension experienced an important technical-academic meeting with the visit of three representatives from the South Korean biotechnology company Macrogen Inc. Nahyun Jeong, Wonsik Ha and Jinsol Park arrived at the campus with the objective of learning firsthand about the research projects developed at the institution and exploring opportunities for cooperation.

Macrogen is a leading company in genomic and next-generation analysis, impacting research worldwide. Their visit represents a significant step toward strengthening research in agricultural sciences, biotechnology, and genetics at UCundinamarca.

The Knowledge and Learning Managers of the Agronomic Engineering program, Diana Nataly Duque Gamboa, Rubén Darío González Román and Diego Alexander Hernández, presented their internal call projects, which seek to apply genomic tools to improve agricultural production and the sustainability of crops in the region.

Teacher Diego Alexander Hernández Contreras highlighted the importance of this support. “Macrogen’s technical and academic advice is key to developing competitive projects in which genomic services help us to solve fundamental questions about agricultural production and biodiversity.”.

During their visit, the Macrogen representatives toured the "El Vergel" Agro-environmental Unit, where they learned about vegetable and fruit crops, as well as experimental plots dedicated to the production of non-commercial beans. The experience was enriching not only from a technical standpoint, but also in terms of cultural and academic exchange.

Rubén Darío González Román, a research professor, expressed his enthusiasm for this international collaboration: “We are confident that this joint work will strengthen the results of our research and allow us to implement new technologies for the agricultural sector.”.

For her part, the Knowledge and Learning Manager, Diana Nataly Duque Gamboa, highlighted the relevance of the company Macrogen in biotechnology research: “Macrogen is a global leader in genetic sequencing, supporting research in agricultural, basic and clinical sciences. This visit opens up new opportunities for the advancement of our projects.”.

Nahyun Jeong, a representative from Macrogen, praised the University of Cundinamarca's focus on agricultural and ecological research, highlighting how the university community integrates academia with practical experience in crop management and environmental sustainability.
