“Students and graduates in this area of knowledge must be in continuous preparation and learning, broadening the panorama from the translocal, impacting different spaces,” explained Dean Luis Rafael Hutchison, who spoke about the fields of action available to graduates of the Sports and Education Sciences program.
The University understands its purpose through knowledge, culture, the individual, and society, and therefore focuses on the generation, transmission, application, and appropriation of knowledge. It urges the university community to never stop learning and to share knowledge and experience, such as that presented in this seminar.
Among the speakers was Juan Mejía, who presented on technological tools for triathlon training and highlighted the devices available to instructors. “With these possibilities offered by ICT, we can create a very complete and organized training plan for individuals, allowing them to progress without major difficulties.”.
On the other hand, speaker Mario Peña spoke about the topic of experiences in the mountains, highlighting what the university contributed to his understanding of the interaction between man and nature in an accelerated society.
Of particular note was the presence of Dr. Benge Nagy from the Hungarian diplomatic delegation, who gave a talk on the sport of Teqball. “We created this sport in my country eleven years ago, and it combines football and table tennis. It can be played in doubles or singles with a football. It is very popular and generates significant economic activity through the championships held between communities.”.
In her presentation, she also mentioned the scholarships offered by the embassy. “The Hungarian government has fifty scholarships available for Colombian students. These are for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. We cover the cost of the semester, accommodation, and a monthly stipend of 150 euros. Students only need to pay for their airfare and have a certified good level of English. All the information is available through ICETEX.”.
Also participating was student and gymnast Michael Mancera, who presented his paper, "Characterization of the Gymnast," which discusses the parameters considered in this discipline. "This sport should begin at an early age, between four and six years old, and its requirements include flexibility, concentration, and good physical condition. The world's top gymnasts meet these criteria.".
For knowledge manager Jairo Ramírez, who organized the event, this activity was eye-opening for the students. “It showed them that someone who studies Sports Science and Physical Education has the potential to work in many different fields. Sometimes there's a misconception that someone with this degree can only work in education as a teacher, in four specific subjects, or in a gym, and that's not true. Here they saw examples ranging from sports psychology and injury management to using YouTube as a communication channel to showcase aspects of this training.”.
The event included the participation of other experts such as José Miguel Méndez, Juan Mejía, July Melo, Jhon Anzola, Jonatán Núñez, Juan Pablo Monroy and Daniel López, who discussed their different experiences and scientific postulates during the day before an audience that was attentive the whole time.
In this way, the university reaffirms its Mission, which speaks of being a democratic, autonomous, educational, and transmodern social organization of knowledge for the benefit of a society that seeks to improve its living conditions.
