The First International Meeting of Agricultural Sciences, "Applying Knowledge to the Field," was held in the Emilio Sierra Baquero auditorium. The meeting focused on productivity parameters in the context of the Colombian post-conflict period, aiming to provide a true and balanced view of the application of knowledge to the field as a strategy for the optimal management of productive livestock and agricultural agroecosystems, taking into account global realities.
“We have the privilege of being in the rural sector, and we focus on preparing students for life, keeping in mind that our interest is not to fill a head with knowledge but to develop a well-rounded individual who can generate change,” highlighted Vilma Moreno Melo, dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, during the opening of the event.
“This meeting aims to foster the exchange of academic experiences, create and consolidate research, scientific and outreach networks through different presentations by international experts and research with national and local impact that contribute to the application of knowledge,” Moreno added.
The speakers come from Higher Education institutions such as Natalia Pinzón Jiménez, from the University of Berkeley, United States, Carlos Menéndez Gamiz, from the National University of Mexico, Lourdes Brazil Santos, Federal University of Fumimenense, Brazil, René Montalba Navarra, University of La Frontera, Chile, Leyla Ríos de Álvarez, Corpoica Venezuela, representing Colombia is Jairo Mora Delgado from the University of Tolima.
Thematic panels have been presented on rural development, biotechnology, natural resources and climate change, agricultural education, sustainable agricultural systems, economics and administration.
The international event is attended by representatives of the Cundinamarca Governorate, trade institutions, SENA, government entities and the academic and research community of the University of Buenos Aires, Javeriana University Cali Campus, Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca, University of Quindío, UNAD, University of Tolima among others.
Furthermore, at the opening of the event, the faculty awarded recognitions to Dr. Gabriel Vélez and Dr. Cristina Caicedo for their contribution to the agricultural development of the country.
