The University of Cundinamarca continues to expand its academic offerings with innovative programs. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has received approval from the Ministry of National Education to launch the Topographic and Geomatic Engineering program, which will be offered at the Soacha campus.
Dr. John Alexander Moreno Sandoval, dean of the faculty, emphasized that this program represents a significant challenge due to the incorporation of advanced technologies and its impact on the training of professionals in Cundinamarca. “We want to offer a quality education with state-of-the-art tools, expanding access to more young people interested in surveying and geomatics.”.
The launch of this program builds upon the university's prior experience with Cartography Technology, which has been strengthened and evolved into an engineering degree with broader professional scope. The process included evaluation by the Ministry of Education and compliance with all required approval criteria.
According to Fernando Ávila Vélez, Knowledge and Learning Manager of the faculty, this new academic offering will train highly qualified professionals in spatial surveys, road design, geographic data analysis and emerging technologies such as drones, satellite images and artificial intelligence applied to georeferencing.
“This program not only addresses traditional topography, but also incorporates geomatics and spatial analysis tools that will allow for the accurate representation of the dynamics of the territories,” Ávila explained.
The program is aimed at those who wish to specialize in planimetry, altimetry, cadastre, geodata and geographic information systems, key skills for infrastructure development and land management in Colombia.
Registration will open soon for the second academic period, and the first group of students will begin classes in August 2025.
With this new academic offering, the University of Cundinamarca reaffirms its commitment to educational innovation and technological development, providing young people in the region with opportunities for advanced training in areas fundamental to the future of the country.
