The University of Cundinamarca, led by Rector Adriano Muñoz Barrera, and the administrative directors of each of the extensions and branches, welcomed 1,463 new students for the 2018 academic year who are now part of the UCundinamarca “Generation 21st Century” alma mater.
“I want to highlight the work done at the University, which is evident in its mission achievements. We achieved the institutional conditions for accreditation of the Bachelor of Social Sciences academic program, and we also approved and implemented the institutional self-evaluation process.”, He pointed out.
During his speech, Muñoz Barrera informed the new students about the progress and initiatives being made for the benefit of the institution and the academic community in matters of quality, best practices, infrastructure, and teaching.
“The Institution has had many achievements, such as the recertification of the University in the ISO-9001 2008 technical standard, Quality Management System, equipping classrooms with a 90% of technological resources, strengthening of the academy among other achievements,”, he emphasized.
On the other hand, the Rector called on the entire academic community, graduates, parents, and administrative staff to defend the University of Cundinamarca as the only alternative for rural youth in the department after the decision by the Ministry of National Education to sanction the Institution by denying accreditation for its degree programs in English, mathematics, and physical education.
“The evaluation cannot become a punitive instrument against an academic community that has made so many efforts under unequal conditions in the quality assurance system, especially since it is demanding the impossible, such as the requirement for tenured professors, even though the Nation owes the Institution the transfers for the years 1993 and 1994, which is why we filed a class action lawsuit and we have a public hearing on February 13 at 2:30 pm, in the office of Magistrate Fredy Ibarra,”, he stated.
The induction week, held between January 31 and February 2 of this year, included integration activities, a parents' workshop, and topics related to university life; in addition to the presentation of the portfolio of services offered by University Welfare, in the areas of culture, sports and recreation, health promotion, socioeconomic programs, and safety and health workshops.
