Many years have passed since she remembers her father teaching her the value of solidarity by example; however, Mireya Vanegas remembers it as if it were yesterday, and that is why she does the same with her Business Administration students at UCundinamarca Girardot branch to instill such an important value.
“This teacher embodies what MEDIT is all about; she helps others and gives her best. She knows that being a good human being is essential to being a good professional,” said Dr. Juan Carlos Méndez Forero, Administrative Director of the Girardot branch. However, the teacher maintains that this was her philosophy of life long before she learned about the UCundinamarca Educational Model.
Professor Mireya is a lawyer, a graduate of Santo Tomás de Aquino University, specializing in Procedural Law, Labor Law, Administrative Law, Civil Law, and Commercial Law from Rosario University. A specialist in university teaching, she has been a practicing lawyer for over 32 years. She has professional experience in labor law and has been a university professor for 25 years, where she equips her students with the foundations for leadership, a sense of belonging, teamwork, empowerment, decision-making, personnel management, and the development of creative and dynamic strategies, strengthening their skills in labor, commercial, and administrative areas.
“I like that through activities like planting, students can learn that it’s not just about planting the tree, but about valuing the process of choosing the land, then using their hands to help plow the soil, plant the seed, water it, and care for its growth. All these processes teach them something for life, for businesses, and for their relationship with their environment (human beings and nature),” the teacher said.
It all starts at home.
Mireya is a founding member of the Ricaurte Lions Club, where she also carries out important social work, which she combines with teaching, her passion and profession. She also works as a consultant on various legal matters.
The teacher explains that she owes everything she is today to her parents' upbringing. She sees her work as an opportunity to help young people live in harmony with the environment and nature.
“At UCundinamarca, we have carried out several activities supported by the Administrative Director in Girardot, such as reforestation and donation drives, including the 'Friday of the Kilo' food drive. This drive was to help some students who lacked resources during the pandemic, and it was done as a donation. We managed to collect 25 food baskets,” explained the professor, confirming that the University not only teaches academic subjects but also supports human development processes, so that young people learn to share and give to others.
The teacher is fully aligned with MEDIT, stating that it is one of the best tools that UCundinamarca has to contribute to the society in which we live, while she continues to support this model, which is in accordance with her philosophy of life and thus transmit the best of herself to those around her.
