In pursuit of the 2024 Ultimate World Championship

Angie Paulina Quiroga Poveda, a third-semester student in the Sports Science and Physical Education program at the Soacha campus, has been selected to represent Colombia at the 2024 WFDF Ultimate Junior World Championship in Birmingham, UK, from July 21 to 27, 2024. Despite having only a year and a half of experience in Ultimate Frisbee, Angie has demonstrated great talent and dedication to this sport that has captured her heart.

The coach of the University Welfare Ultimate team, Alejandro Castro Ortiz, explained that “this dynamic sport, originally from the United States, arrived in Colombia around 2001. Ultimate combines elements of several games, including American football, and is characterized by its intensity and speed. On the field, players must advance the disc without running with it, passing it to their teammates until they reach the end zone.”.

He stated that “in recent times, Ultimate has gained popularity in Colombia, attracting young people and the university environment. Numerous tournaments and leagues have been established at the national and international levels, thus fostering a competitive spirit and camaraderie among athletes,” the sports instructor pointed out.

Angie Quiroga Poveda shared her experience in the selection process to join the Colombian Ultimate Team, Under-20, where she faced challenges and tests that pushed her to surpass herself. Now, with the support of her family and her unwavering determination, she is preparing to represent her country in this prestigious international sporting event.
