Promoting critical thinking in young people

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

On October 30th, the Research Seedbed A Path to Rediscover Pedagogy and Pedagogical Knowledge (PESAPE) of the Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences at the Fusagasugá campus, together with the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Funza (Cundinamarca), co-organized the Chair of Philosophy and Social Sciences, with the purpose of strengthening the processes of socio-critical thinking among students of higher and academic secondary education.

The event, held in the CGCA auditorium, brought together 104 students and teachers from the municipalities of Funza, Sibaté, and Fusagasugá. During the event, students from the Funza school had the opportunity to participate as presenters, gaining an academic experience that allowed them to enhance their communication, research, and critical thinking skills.

Zandra Maritza Tarazona Carrascal, Knowledge and Learning Manager of the Social Sciences program, highlighted that these types of spaces strengthen the articulation between secondary and higher education, promoting collaborative learning and reflection on contemporary social issues.

The event also included a cultural showcase featuring the Vice Queen of the Rumba Criolla, Zuly Tamara Castro García, and her dance partner, Jaime Alejandro Cárdenas Pinzón. Representing the University were engineering student Javier Pabón and the group Creación Tango y Salsa, represented by Juan Sebastián and Danna Valentina, who provided entertainment.

This experience was consolidated as a scenario to promote comprehensive training in Social Sciences and Philosophy, fostering critical thinking, social sensitivity and reflection on the challenges of the current world in students.
