“Recycling Around” in Ubaté

Seeking to generate transformative actions, Reciclando ando emerged as an activity of the Sembrando Esperanza cultural learning field of the Ubaté branch, which was developed on May 18, 2020, within the framework of the International Recycling Day.

“Reciclando ando is an activity that we want to continue over time, thus promoting a culture of environmental awareness and people's health, due to the importance of recycling for our ecosystems,” explained Dr. Alejandro Flechas, administrative director of the Ubaté branch.

The official also gave a general overview of the activity at the Sembrando Esperanza Cultural Learning Field of the Ubaté Branch and how, with the Reciclando ando activity at the local and municipal level, it is committed to Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 sustainable cities and communities, where they seek, through joint work with the inter-institutional entities of the municipality, to turn current environmental problems into opportunities.

The discussion

The Ubaté branch has demonstrated its commitment to the environment, with several green campus initiatives, the implementation of the Environmental Management System and the Eco-farm Projection, said Dr. Flechas.

Regarding the transition to the new color code under Resolution No. 2184 of 2019, engineer Danna Carolina Gordillo, head of the Cleaning and Environment Department of EMSERVILLA, explained the educational work carried out by the Entity and how the color code works, the type of waste that should go in each one and how putting this type of practice into practice helps the environment.

Anyicarina Bonilla, from the Ángeles Recicladores association, pointed out the importance of separating waste at the source as a strategy to contribute from home to the work of local recyclers and explained that cardboard, plastic and glass are the most common reusable waste, and also explained how they collect and the cleaning process.

From the Autonomous Corporation, Darnelly Esperanza Cruz, Technical Support Professional for the Ciclo Re-Ciclo project, spoke about the Reciclaton that will take place in June with the support of the Mayor's Office, EMSERVILLA.

Environmental Capsules

Diego López, from the Bottles of Love Foundation, led a fun activity in which attendees participated in making a love bottle. “Fabric, vinyl, Styrofoam, cardboard, kitchen sponge, X-rays, sand, latex, paper, aluminum, latex gloves, metal, or dirt are elements that should NOT go in the bottles we make,” explained Diego López, while making the bottles.

The Invitation

The Ubaté branch invites all students to store recyclable waste at home and bring it to the UCundinamarca facilities, so that in the next activity of Reciclando ando, the next activity of the CAC: Reciclando ando, and invited the students to the second phase of the activity.
