“Since my undergraduate studies, I observed that patients who had the support of their family or caregivers had a better and faster recovery, since being in their environment allowed them to maintain their emotional stability and daily life routine,” said Yurani Rocío Bonilla Bernal, a graduate and teacher in the Nursing program at UCundinamarca, who a couple of years ago decided to open an IPS in Girardot.
IPS Debsalud SAS is the dream of Yurani, who, from her experience as a nurse, identified the importance and evolution of managing patients at home with their family network and the relevance of being in their environment with less exposure to adverse events and infections. She also noted that none of the companies providing this service were from the region. “This motivated me to want to create my own company, which started as a family project in 2017 and was finalized in 2019,” the graduate recalled.
This professional nurse from UCundinamarca now has a center where chronic diseases, special care or emergencies are treated, nursing, laboratories, general medicine, treatment for covid, among other home services supported by a human talent of the region that today benefits more than 12 people with stable employment and allows professional practices to be carried out there.
“Girardot has the University of Cundinamarca, where the nursing program provides the entire region with high-profile graduates who are leaders in health institutions. Therefore, it is important that our profession be a leader in creating businesses in the health sector where quality services are provided and employment is generated,” said Yurani Rocío, who is also a teacher at the Girardot branch.
The Vocation
“I always had a feeling of helping and empathy towards others, this allowed me to be willing to give my attention and care to those who need it, I had the opportunity to learn about one of the professions that fulfill this purpose which is called nursing and which I am very proud to practice,” said the graduate.
At the same time, he stated that the work he does is enriching, considering that each person to whom they provide their services can improve their health, and these types of actions remind him that he chose the right path and wants to continue growing from his IPS for the benefit of the community in the region.
The teacher
Yurani is convinced that teaching allows professionals from different disciplines to share experiences and insights from both their work and their personal lives. “The University of Cundinamarca provides spaces for teachers and students to share knowledge. The experience of teaching comes from the daily satisfaction derived from the practice itself and the challenge of staying at the forefront of the field.”.
“I thank my alma mater for allowing me to be part of this great team of teachers and to be able to share my knowledge.”.
