With the opera The Barber of Seville by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, Paola Leguizamón, a 2014 graduate of the Music program, made her debut in Italy. The talented young woman performed three shows, proudly representing Colombia. “I was selected to play one of the roles in this opera after participating in the Cartagena Music Festival, which has an agreement with the Teatro Comunal. I've been in Italy for three weeks, and it's been a wonderful experience. Each performance has been a learning opportunity, and we've received a very warm welcome from the audience,” explained Paola.
The graduate affirms that it has been her discipline, perseverance, and love for what she does that have allowed her to achieve her dreams, which is why she moved to Madrid a year ago to study and perfect her instrument: her voice. “This week I begin rehearsals for an opera at the Teatro Real in Madrid; we will perform in several cities. Art is experienced differently in Europe than in Colombia, and that's why I'm having these experiences and learning so I can return at a high level.”.
Paola recalls her years as a student at UCundinamarca and how she discovered that, in addition to her love for music, she had a powerful voice. After exploring various genres during her studies and later working in different roles as a music teacher, she concluded that opera was what truly fulfilled her.
That's how he persevered, eventually participating in several operas in Bogotá and Cartagena, and now he excels in European opera. "Only two Colombians are part of the cast; we were selected, and that encourages me to continue because being on these stages is definitely what I want to keep doing.".
A path of learning
Paola and her family have lived in Cajicá, which is why UCundinamarca was the option for this talented young woman to study what, according to her, caught her attention at that time, without imagining that she had great potential.
After graduating, she taught at the institution and at the House of Culture; however, her dreams were focused on singing, and she continued training to fulfill her dream.
After joining the youth choir and continuing her studies, she had the opportunity to perform in opera at the Teatro Colón, the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santodomingo, and various festivals. “I enjoyed the stage, the costumes, and singing opera.”.
Paola hopes to continue studying and enjoying the operas to which she is invited because of her unparalleled talent, leaving her mark as an outstanding graduate of UCundinamarca.
