“The responsibility of safeguarding human lives is only assumed by those committed to altruistic principles that demand discipline, perseverance, and willpower. We have placed our trust in you; today we know we are in good hands, and this is the opportune moment to congratulate you. The university is committed to all institutional processes aimed at improving human talent, and that is what makes our institution great, but the university becomes great by helping people become great,” expressed Adriano Muñoz Barrera, Rector of UCundinamarca.
The training was intended to strengthen the institution's Emergency Plan, in accordance with the continuous improvement of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System, which is framed within the current legal regulations established in Decree 1072 of 2015.
For five weeks they gave their all, putting forth every effort to train as comprehensive brigade members. “We recognize that the process was not easy, that it demanded physical effort, sacrifices in their free time, some inconveniences due to travel, and perhaps the most difficult thing, sacrificing time with their families. For these reasons, I am grateful for their commitment and dedication to achieving this goal,” said Olga Lucía Perilla, Coordinator of Occupational Safety and Health at UCundinamarca.
César Mauricio Nieves, from the company Ingeniería y Calidad Integral, which oversaw the training process, highlighted the effort of UCundinamarca in providing comprehensive training to 36 people for this valuable work. “My respect and admiration to the brigade members,” he stated.
The training took place at CERCUN and lasted 140 hours, covering practical topics such as firefighting techniques, incident command system, hazardous materials incidents, Morse code, pre-hospital care, basic life support, high-angle rescue, collapsed structures, and confined spaces.
It should be noted that the training was supported by final semester nursing students from the Girardot branch, first aid commanders from the medical field, military service and the National Police.
The graduation event was presided over by the senior management, headed by the Rector, Adriano Muñoz Barrera, the General Secretary, Luz Angélica Vizcaíno Solano, the Academic Vice-Rector, Orlando Blanco Zúñiga, the Administrative and Financial Vice-Rector, Miryam Lucía Sánchez Gutiérrez, and the Director of Human Talent, Luz Etelvina Lozano Soto, among other directors.
