The branch campus was evaluated by academic peers assigned by the Ministry of National Education (MEN), taking into account the following conditions: student and faculty selection and evaluation mechanisms, administrative and academic structure, culture of self-evaluation, alumni program, student welfare model, and sufficient resources to guarantee the achievement of its goals. “In that regard, the National Intersectoral Commission for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CONACES) was responsible for presenting the report to the MEN, which granted us its approval,” stated Dr. Juan Carlos Méndez, administrative director of the Girardot branch campus.
This process, which began in April 2021, gave the branch a favorable opinion for a term of seven years, which will allow the filing of applications for qualified registration for new programs or the renewal of existing ones without having to go through the pre-filing stage again.
The institution is pleased to share this news from the Ministry. “Since we met the parameters for self-evaluation, verification, and assessment of institutional quality conditions, this is an important aspect for continuing to provide an excellent educational service,” added Dr. Méndez.
It is worth noting that the branch has programs in nursing, environmental engineering, business administration, a Bachelor's degree in Education and tourism and hotel management, as well as specializations in environmental education and community development and management information systems that impact the development of the entire region.
Finally, the branch director acknowledged the commitment of the team of students, teachers, coordinators, deans and officials of the institution, who put all their effort into achieving this important goal.
What is qualified registration?
The qualified registration of the higher education academic program is the instrument of the Higher Education Quality Assurance System through which the State verifies and evaluates compliance with quality conditions by higher education institutions.
It is important to clarify that, within the framework of a quality culture that fosters continuous improvement, the goal is for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to move beyond the mandatory renewal process and pursue (voluntary) accreditation of their programs once they meet the guidelines established by the National Accreditation Council (CNA). This should be understood as the realization of the quality continuum that the Higher Education Quality Assurance System has established in pursuit of higher quality educational processes.
