UCundinamarca News spoke with the administrative director, Dr. Miguel Ángel Ávila Díaz, about this event and where his management is headed in relation to the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT).
UCundinamarca News: What does the program consist of to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the university's founding?
Miguel Ángel Ávila Díaz: On November 16th, a series of events for students, staff, and faculty will take place from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. In the morning, we will host a sports and cultural event, making use of our facilities. The branch's theater group will perform, along with circus acts and a traditional Colombian band. In the afternoon, we will hold the academic forum "30 Years of UCundinamarca from the Perspectives of Nursing, Business Administration, and Tourism and Hotel Management." These groups will make significant historical contributions, thanks to the support of faculty, students, and coordinators. We will conclude the day with a panel discussion on this topic and our vision for the future.
UCundinamarca News: Do you have a main event planned?
Miguel Ángel Ávila Díaz: Yes. This evening, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, we will be inviting all the institution's directors, council members, the mayor, and his cabinet to share with us the historical record we have compiled of the branch campus and how we envision our future. We will discuss the physical development plan and the typology of new infrastructure projects. We will present our understanding of the concept of a green university and the work we did on the booklet about endemic birds. We will conclude the event with remarks from Dr. Adriano Muñoz Barrera, Rector of UCundinamarca.
UCundinamarca News: Will admission be free?
Miguel Ángel Ávila Díaz: Yes. We want Girardot to know that we are commemorating 30 years since the founding of our institution.
UCundinamarca News: What is your vision for the branch campus in the coming years?
Miguel Ángel Ávila Díaz: We are planning for a five-year period to achieve institutional accreditation. To that end, we are working diligently to improve in all academic areas and to have our integrated management systems ready. All of this aligns with the Rector's vision of moving beyond a traditional approach of teaching and certification to become an organization with soul, heart, and intelligence that engages the entire university community, both to contribute and to learn.
UCundinamarca News: How does ethics align with your educational project from the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT)?
Miguel Ángel Ávila Díaz: The MEDIT approach is transversal to all our experiences, both internal and external. Obviously, we conceive of the ethical development of each of our activities from the multidimensional fields of learning, where the classroom is not the only source of knowledge, but also realities such as society, culture, the institution, family, and nature. These interacting elements give rise to a learning process in which students act, experience, and solve problems related to social, disciplinary, and personal realities, always guided by ethical principles in each of their actions.
