Girardot pays tribute to 50 years of institutional life

The commemorative event was held with a varied cultural program and integration activities between students, teachers, administrative staff and special guests.

On November 12, the Girardot branch paid tribute to the University of Cundinamarca on its 50th anniversary. The celebration began with a thanksgiving mass.

“For the University, it is strategic to talk about Girardot, firstly because of the history that the university has represented in the municipality and in the province, and also because there were and are people who have made this dream possible; that the institution reaches 5 decades in service to higher education. For this reason, I want to give special recognition to all the professors, students, administrative staff, and graduates who have given us this legacy, an institution so important for Cundinamarca. If it weren't for them, we surely wouldn't be here celebrating what they built in 1969; a dream that became an opportunity for the young people of Cundinamarca to transcend in their lives. .

"I also congratulate them because they have managed to consolidate an important team in the Girardot branch, and remember that this institution belongs to Cundinamarca, it belongs to all young people, thank you for believing in the University of Cundinamarca, it is our duty to uphold the name of this institution," said Adriano Muñoz Barrera, rector of the University of Cundinamarca.

Furthermore, during the event, the administrative director of the Girardot branch, Juan Carlos Méndez Forero, praised the educational work that the university has carried out in the region and in Cundinamarca over the past fifty years and reiterated the institution's commitment to high-quality education focused on the human being, life, and civic responsibility. Also during the commemoration, the branch's leadership paid tribute to staff and faculty members who have served the institution for more than 40 years, such as Ana Marlene Siatoba de Amaya, executive secretary; Luis Alberto Vanegas Marroquin; and Drigelio Morales Garzón, a faculty member with 33 years of service, among others.

It is worth noting that Ser Ambiental recognized the university for its 50 years of service to education in the department and its role as a leading strategic institution for environmental sustainability. Similarly, the Chamber of Commerce of Girardot, Alto Magdalena, and Tequendama honored the branch for its invaluable service to the country in strengthening the development of teaching, learning, research, innovation, and university engagement processes.

As a symbolic act, the branch campus placed the legacy, objects, and audiovisual material documenting the institution's 50-year history into a time capsule. This capsule will be opened in 2069 to bring to light the events that shaped the dream of establishing the University of Cundinamarca. Finally, those attending the celebration enjoyed a musical performance by the Carranga group from the Zipaquirá Extension, an exhibition of books that chronicled the university's history through the voices of its key figures, and a Bingo game with prizes for the academic and administrative community.
