The Rector of the University of Cundinamarca, Adriano Muñoz Barrera, Director of the Girardot Branch, Fredy Valdés García, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Ricardo Acosta and the Director of the Business Administration program, Giovanny Quijano, presented to the Honorable Municipal Council of Girardot the impact management that the academic programs have been developing in the areas of teaching, research and social projection, and university welfare in the city and the province of Alto Magdalena.
“We have assumed a responsibility to the city, the department, and the nation. For this reason, we are presenting the progress being made in academic programs, research, and community outreach in Girardot. This is an effort for the youth, so that through education they can fulfill their dreams,” stated Adriano Muñoz Barrera, Rector of the University of Cundinamarca.
Adriano Muñoz Barrera invites the city council members to consider increasing the PRO-UDEC stamp tax. Listen to the audio here:
It is worth noting that since last year, the 15 honorable councilors of the municipality of Girardot have been considering the need to increase the percentage from 0.5% to 1.5%, a decision that after a year is still under study, although the councilors highlighted the leading role of social transformation that the University of Cundinamarca plays in the region and of course, in the municipality of Girardot.
Later in March, the Girardot branch presented to the municipal corporation the 2016 executive report of the investments made from the Pro-UdeC stamp, equivalent to 0.5%, in the areas of maintenance, infrastructure, laboratories, libraries, scholarships, among other management investments.
This accountability space allowed for the establishment of working groups between the branch directors and the councilors to continue with the study of increasing the percentage of the stamp to 1.5 %.

The increase in the percentage from 1.5% would allow the Girardot branch to finance the accreditation processes currently underway, strengthen research, the water laboratory, and the nursing simulation lab, and improve the accounting laboratories and library. It would also allow for the modernization of the library's environmental conditions and document management processes.

Furthermore, on July 15th of this year, in a session of the Municipal Council, the directors of the academic programs of Environmental Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Basic Education with emphasis in Humanities: Spanish Language and English, and Technology in Tourism and Hotel Management will present the impacts they are developing in the city and the province of Alto Magdalena.
For their part, the students of the Nursing and Environmental Engineering program urged the council members to modify Agreement 014 of September 10, 2013, which establishes the percentage 0.5%, to return to the increase of 1.5%.
Given this context, the University of Cundinamarca awaits the decision of the Municipal Council and the Mayor's Office of Girardot regarding the feasibility of increasing the percentage of the Pro-Development Stamp of the University of Cundinamarca-UdeC from 0.5% to 1.5%.
