BON cattle uphold the name of the U. at AgroExpo

The La Esperanza agro-environmental unit, based in Fusagasugá, obtained first place in the different livestock competitions with the exhibition of six BON (Blanco Orijinegro) bovine specimens.

The University of Cundinamarca participated in the 22nd edition of Agroexpo, held at Corferias, an agricultural event taking place from July 16th to 21st. The institution distinguished itself by winning first place in the male and female competitions with its most representative and recognized animal breed, the Colombian Creole Blanco Orejinegro (Black and White) cattle; achieving the following ribbons with six out of seven cattle judged.

Skills:

Males aged 3 to 4 years: 1st Place

Males 6 to 9 Months: 2nd Place

Females aged 9 to 12 months: 2nd Place

Females aged 21 to 24 months: 2nd place

Females aged 30 to 36 months: 2nd place

Females aged 3 to 4 years: 4th place

The judging was carried out by experts in the field, and took into account aspects such as body, leg shape, breed, head, neck, toplines among other physical characteristics.

It is worth noting that the following livestock farms participated: Francisco de Paula Santander University, Hatoviejo livestock farm, Pacaraima livestock farm, Congregación Hermanos de La Salle livestock farm, Lontananza livestock farm, La Fortaleza livestock farm, and Waldruhe la Corcovada livestock farm.

This year's Agroexpo features more than 4,500 animals on display and delegations from more than 12 countries, including Canada, China, Brazil, Italy, and Cuba; thus consolidating its position as the most representative fair in Central America and the Caribbean.

Phenotypic description of the BON breed

Animals of the BON breed must meet the following characteristics:

1. Epidermis and pigmented mucous membranes

2. Hooves and tips of the horns, if any are dark.

3. Hair color according to the variety as follows:

Fine white: white hair.

Two hairs: white hair with black hairs scattered among the white ones.

Blanco Orejimono (Possible recessive homozygous): has reddish or brownish ears and sometimes mottled areas that vary in intensity and size.

Blue and spotted: it presents the mixture of black and white hairs which gives it a gray (bluish), mottled (sardine) and spotted blackhead appearance or combination of these colors with black tips.
