A student from the University of Cundinamarca brought honor to the institution and the country at one of the world's most important university sporting events. Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Acero, from the Sports Science program at the Soacha campus, participated in the FISU World University Games 2025 in the discipline of taekwondo.
From July 16 to 27, the German city of Duisburg hosted thousands of student-athletes from different countries. Among them, Miguel Ángel proudly carried the tricolor flag and the spirit of UCundinamarca.
“Representing Colombia and the University of Cundinamarca on an international stage was a great source of pride,” said Rodríguez Acero. “Reaching those distances in my sport, where almost all the best in the world compete in each category, is incredible.”.
The student confessed that at first he couldn't believe it: “When you go and stand on the stage, it's something completely different. You only believe it when you're actually participating in those kinds of events.”.
Miguel Ángel explained that his preparation went beyond the physical: “I focused on specific training and a lot of sparring with people from lighter and heavier weight classes to get in better shape.”.
Mental preparation was key. “You have to prepare yourself mentally to compete to win. In taekwondo, the best way to prepare is to continue doing what you've always done, because that's the path that leads you to those levels.”.
During his time in Germany, the taekwondo athlete highlighted the value of his teammates: “Everyone who got there did so for a reason. You can really see the discipline and passion they put into this sport.”.
Rodríguez Acero described taekwondo as "a very explosive and endurance sport" where constant preparation makes the difference.
Institutional pride
Miguel Ángel's participation in these games represents more than a personal achievement. It is an example of discipline, commitment, and international standing that fills the entire university community of UCundinamarca with pride.
Their presence in Duisburg demonstrates that the university's students are prepared to compete at the highest level and represent Colombia with dignity in international settings.
