Research Friday, Geographic Information Sciences, From Ecology to Urban Analytics

The IGAC, through its Research and Foresight Department, is pleased to invite you to the # 13-2023 conference. Invest FridayIGACion on October 6, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Joining us as a speaker will be researcher Fernando Benitez-Paez, a Cadastral and Geodetic Engineer and Professor of Spatial Data Science at the Faculty of Geography and Sustainable Development, University of St Andrews, Scotland. He has used GIS and data science tools to develop new methods for spatiotemporal problems, with a particular focus on data fusion methods and urban analysis.

The knowledge transfer will be carried out with the presentation “Geographic Information Sciences: From Ecology to Urban Analytics, What are the Opportunities for New Researchers?”, in which we will explore several initiatives where the multidisciplinary nature of Geographic Information Sciences can be observed, from its potential contributions to ecology with the study of animal migrations, its contribution to data fusion processes for tracking COVID-19 in the United Kingdom, emerging spaces for research and teaching of this discipline in northern Colombia, and we will conclude with initiatives for the analysis and visualization of the urban grid of the city of Bogotá.

In this presentation we will talk about multiple local initiatives, collaboration with Colombian universities, and discuss the challenges and endless opportunities that await the next generation of researchers in this discipline.
