With the purpose of strengthening their knowledge in aquaculture production systems, thirty (30) students from the Zootechnics program, from the Aquaculture Production nucleus, visited the Fish Research Center (CINPIC) belonging to the University of Córdoba, Main Campus.
The academic field trip to the Research Center of the Cordoba Institution was led by Professor Sergio Prieto, who focused the practical session on the reproduction of Bocachico fish for consumption (Prochilodus magdalenae), Cachama (Piaractus brachypomus), Golden (Salminus brasiliensis), Tilapia (Oreochromis spp), among others.
Furthermore, the students had the experience of sharing with the Embera Katío indigenous community and learning about the social projects in aquaculture production systems that they develop through advice with the University of Córdoba, an institution recognized nationally for its contribution to rural transformation and interaction between the University and vulnerable communities.
During the week of practice carried out last April, the learning in Wet and Dry Spawning Systems with hormonal induction and Evaluation of seminal quality and cryopreservation as a research technique developed by Professor Juan Romero through the Sperm Class Analyzer (SCA) program stands out.
Likewise, the experience included recognizing aquaponic production schemes, ornamental fish as potential for international markets, oysters, snails, shad in mangroves, and repopulation schemes for crocodiles, turtles, among other species.
During this time, the students were able to observe the visualization and analysis of closed recirculation systems for wastewater in aquaculture, using a treatment system by means of aquatic plants such as water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) which allows for the establishment of more sustainable systems.
