La Esperanza Farm of the University stands out at the 62nd Expofusa

On June 2nd and 3rd, UCundinamarca participated in the sixty-second edition of the Expofusa 2018 fair with a bovine exhibition of the ten best animals.

The University of Cundinamarca participated on June 2nd and 3rd in the sixty-second edition of the Expofusa 2018 fair, with a bovine exhibition featuring the ten best purebred Blanco Orejinegro cattle and crossbreeds from the La Esperanza Farm. This activity was supported by the National Association of Breeders of Creole and Colombian Breeds, ASOCRIOLLO.

“Participation in Expofusa raises the profile of the University, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Animal Science program in the application of good livestock practices, and the technical and research work that agricultural professionals have been doing on the farm in relation to the breeding, preservation and conservation of the six Colombian Creole breeds Blanco Orejinegro since 2010,”, Claudia Patricia Galeano Parra, director of La Esperanza Farm, highlighted.

As part of the event's program, Granja La Esperanza presented the work that UCundinamarca has been doing regarding the breeding, conservation and preservation of the Colombian Creole breed BON and the viability of crossbreeding with specialized cattle for both milk and meat.

The bovine exhibition was carried out with the best specimens, both purebred and crossbred, which were presented on the track by the team from the Academic Support Unit – La Esperanza Farm.

The technical presentation of the breed was given by Stephanie Ángel, evaluator of Asocriollo, and Dr. Iván Cruz, delegate for the Sumapaz Cattlemen's Committee, who revealed the characteristics and benefits of the breed in relation to the conditions of climate change and excellent results when crossbred with other bovine breeds.

The livestock sector concluded its participation alongside a select group of participating livestock farms, all originating from herds free of brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis, which gave greater prestige to this event, and with the support of associations such as Asocharolaise, Asopardo, Asocriollo and Asomontbeliarde.
