A farm that yields good fruit

Established as an open-air laboratory, the El Tibar Agro-environmental Unit, colloquially known as the Ubaté branch's farm, serves as a practical training site for students in the Animal Science program, not only from our branch but also for students from other universities pursuing agricultural programs. Furthermore, it is available for students from other disciplines to conduct their practical training there.

In addition to academic work, the production of food supplies that benefit the community and their family basket is also managed, such as eggs classified according to weight, understanding that they have a high nutritional value given their richness in proteins, minerals, vitamins B and D, as well as the contribution of unsaturated fats.

Similarly, apiary management has provided the opportunity to produce high-purity honey, whose antioxidants lower blood pressure, making it more suitable for those with diabetes. Honey consumption also reduces cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and its nutrients are healthy. In addition, it offers the possibility of extracting pollen, propolis, beeswax, and royal jelly.

On the other hand, milk production is consistent, and while there is an institutional contract with a dairy company to supply the vital liquid, the disciplined work involved is noteworthy. This includes planning the cattle's forage, providing veterinary care, and implementing good milking practices to ensure the delivery of this precious resource, which will become high-quality dairy products for consumers. It is important to remember the milk's richness in vitamin B12, essential for red blood cell formation, as well as its calcium and vitamin D content.

In smaller species, there is also professional work for raising piglets and rabbits that later go to market, demonstrating that when technical knowledge is applied, they can become a profitable alternative; they have even been called the farmer's bank, in addition to the contribution of protein and the emotional factor and an aesthetic function.

The invitation remains open for the university community to integrate, embracing UAA El Tibar as an interdisciplinary and intercultural meeting place that positions itself within university life and as a bridge to the communities.
