Faculty of Health Sciences celebrates Nurse's Day

With an academic conference, students, graduates and the health community commemorated International Nurses Day.

Around 115 people, including students, graduates, and administrative staff, participated in the commemoration of International Nurses Day, an event led by the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Office of Internationalization, and the Office of Graduates.

The commemoration began with the discussion: “Nursing: A Voice to Lead, Health is a Right,” led by Sandra Carmona, program coordinator. Carmona highlighted the contributions of nurses from the University of Cundinamarca (UDEC) to society and how, through their professional work, they contribute to improving service delivery for disease prevention and protection among the residents of the Cundinamarca department and the country.

The academic event featured the participation of Blanca Carvajal, former professor at the University of Cundinamarca and current nurse at the Quirón Salud Hospital in Barcelona (Spain); and Diego Vega, a graduate of the Institution and a professional intensive care nurse in this European country.

These two professionals spoke with the attendees of the discussion about what it's like to be a Latin American nurse abroad, and also shared feedback on their projects and knowledge that they carry out in the Iberian Peninsula.

The closing of the day was led by Business Administrator, Giovanny Quijano, with the motivational workshop: Entrepreneurship as a life option.

“I want to express my gratitude because the closing of the event was motivational, and for the recognition the Program Director gave us for our teaching work. It was a source of pride for both my colleagues and me, and something that motivates us to continue working.”, He pointed out.

The event had significant participation and acceptance among the attendees, as stated by Carolina Díaz Jurado, specialist and professor at the faculty: “This event provides the experience of understanding the importance of cultural exchange that the University's Nursing program currently has and how this, in turn, generates an international impact.”.

The Nursing program at the University of Cundinamarca, Girardot branch, in its 43 years of work and professional training of its 1800 graduates and 339 students has ensured the formation of well-rounded professionals, an institutional policy that in the last two years has focused its training for life with innovative competencies in the area of health to perform in the national or international sphere and with high human, scientific, research and social qualities.
