Exploring pre-Hispanic art from a bilingual perspective

Business Administration students on a field trip to the Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic.

“The educational trip to the Gold Museum strengthened the practice of speaking English in and out of the classroom. The students were immersed in the second language, explored pre-Hispanic art, learned the value of history and geography, and interacted with academic groups and foreign visitors.”, highlighted Andrea Constanza Rodríguez Castañeda, English teacher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Political Science.

For student Dennis Dariana Luis, the visit to the Gold Museum was an enriching cultural experience.

“This educational experience was very enriching because we had the interesting and remarkable opportunity to learn more about our country's culture and to do so from a different perspective thanks to English. It is very important to learn about our culture, and thanks to this experience we were able to do so in a fun way. We not only enjoyed the richness of Colombian culture, but we also saw the interest that many foreigners have in learning about it.”, Dennis Dariana Luis maintained.

And he added: “"It's something that makes you feel happy, to be able to see that English allows us to learn about different topics and also to keep a beautiful memory of our homeland.".

He expressed it this way in English: “"This pedagogic output was very enriching because we had the interesting and remarkable opportunity to learn a little more about the culture of our country, and do it from a different perspective thanks to English. It is very important to learn about our culture, and thanks to this experience we were able to do it in a fun way. We not only enjoyed the Colombian wealth, we also saw the interest that many foreigners have in knowing about it. It is something that makes you feel happy, to be able to see that English allows us to know about different topics and also to ”keep a beautiful memory of our land.”.
