The “UDEC Talks” was a dialogue-based event held on May 10th, focused on learning about and discussing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in English. “The objective of this activity was to put this second language into practice, not only through dialogue but also as a space for knowledge sharing,” explained Elena Martínez, English coordinator at UCundinamarca.
The activity was attended in person by approximately 70 students, where seven 'high achievers' or high-performance students from the Extension program gave presentations on topics such as: climate change, gender equality and environmental impact, to educational quality and sustainable production.
Thus, the meeting, which has been running since the first half of 2020, seeks in this, its fifth edition, "to reinforce, maintain and develop intermediate points for language learning for those who have a greater ability to learn it, and for those who do not," concluded Martínez.
English Day
This event, which took place during the first week of May, was held on the Teams and Facebook Live platforms, in a broadcast in which 120 students from the Extension participated, showing different tutorials to learn about specific topics such as psychology, anatomy, programming and engineering fields such as Environmental and Agricultural.
“We had the participation of all the teachers from the cross-disciplinary area of English in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Political Science,” assured the English Coordinator, Elena Martínez
“The English Day initiative arose from the need to create extracurricular spaces for students, where they can engage with knowledge and test their skills, primarily in the oral aspect of their command of a second language, which in this case is English,” said the Coordinator.
The meeting, which is organized by the cross-disciplinary English area of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Political Science, will return for the second semester of this year.
