Exchange of academic practice spaces

The academic activity took place on September 22nd at the Ubaté branch of the Animal Science program. “Twenty-one final-year students and a professor from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science attended and learned the techniques for preparing sausages, hamburgers, and stuffed meats, as they lack the equipment and laboratory for this purpose,” explains Luis Eduardo Sánchez Sarrazola, coordinator of the program at the University of Cundinamarca.

This agreement is a win-win situation, as UCundinamarca can also make use of their educational spaces. “We have already visited their amphitheater so that our students can train in animal anatomy. Similarly, we have taken the opportunity to visit some of their farms where they raise livestock that we don't have here in the high tropics. In that sense, it is a very efficient exchange of spaces for practical training, where both institutions benefit.”.

For Professor Edicson Rincón, who hosted the students from San Martín University, “this process was very meaningful, as we first gave the group and their professor a tour of our facilities, and then we assisted with the logistics of forming the work groups. Afterward, we provided them with the equipment and supplies needed for processing the products, and they supplied the meat. Once the food processing was complete, we held a tasting. During this experience, they were able to tour the El Tíbar Agro-environmental Unit for two weeks and learn about the care and maintenance of the pigs, sheep, cattle, and poultry we raise.”.

He also highlighted the importance of these types of agreements for their role in the students' educational process. "This initiative is excellent because students can learn about the educational programs offered at other institutions, and it serves as a valuable social interaction activity. In addition to visiting our campus, they were able to explore Ubaté.".

He also stated that a visit to the Bovine Production System at San Martín University is planned for this year. “We will take our students to Chocontá so they can learn about the system.”.

Finally, it is worth emphasizing that, according to Sánchez Sarrazola, "this agreement for the exchange of educational spaces will last until 2027, which will surely be a fruitful experience of translocality for both universities.".
