“For this occasion, the network of professors approved addressing the topic of public interest and statutory auditing at the XVI Meeting of Professors of Statutory Auditing 2022, since ethics is fundamental in the professional practice of the public accountant both in private organizations and in the country,” stated Hernán Alonso Gómez, professor of the Public Accounting program at UDEC Chía extension.
“Today, the role of the Certified Public Accountant is very important because they are the ones who build and implement a self-regulation process for the practice of auditing, and in Colombia, we have incorporated this into the Statutory Audit. This was a great opportunity for students to become aware of the topic and the relevance of this professional's role for the country, society, and the development of businesses,” added Professor Alonso.
The activity was aimed at students and graduates of Public Accounting from UCundinamarca and, of course, from the universities that make up the Fiscal Auditing Network, which is in charge of organizing the event, and which includes, along with UDEC, eleven other educational institutions such as Javeriana, Externado, Piloto, Central and Iberoamericana, among others.
The event, which lasted more than eight hours, had the participation of around 200 attendees both in person and virtually, allowing not only members of the network's universities but also members of other institutions in Colombia to take part in the day.
Finally, Liliana Luque, a certified public accountant and specialist in statutory auditing, who attended the event as a professor at the Ibero-American University, explained that, “Statutory auditing is the foundation for ensuring the smooth operation of processes, whether accounting, contracting, payroll records, or others. Through this network, we demonstrate our role and the implications it entails,” she concluded.
