The University of Cundinamarca's 2025 Animal Science Week concluded with a flourish: the 15th annual Equine Festival brought together students, breeders, and horse enthusiasts for a day that combined tradition, academia, and spectacle, with the support of the National Association of Horsemen and Friends (ANCA). Andrés Mogollón Reina, coordinator of the Animal Science program in Fusagasugá, explained that the event included judging of equine specimens, especially the Colombian Criollo horse. "We evaluated their elegance, trot, canter, and walk, highlighting the unique characteristics of our breed," he noted.
The festival featured the participation of several universities across the country, including Gran Colombia University in Armenia, the University of Tolima, and the Cooperative University of Colombia, Ibagué campus. The closing event included a cultural show featuring the creator of the camellias and, for the first time in the festival's history, the participation of Amazonian Women riding horses. Plutarco Reyes, executive director of ANCA, highlighted the partnership with the university: “We combine the technical expertise we develop at the association with the teaching and pedagogy of the University. Each year the festival grows in organization, audience, and participating breeders.”.
Tobías Saldaña, an animal science student, described the experience as "very positive and enriching," emphasizing that these kinds of opportunities allow them to strengthen their knowledge of animal care, especially in equine management. This experience strengthens the bond between academia, producers, and the local community, consolidating the cultural, productive, and educational value of the equine sector in the region.
