English Day in Soacha: Art and fun!

The English Day celebration was attended by 600 people, including students, administrative staff, and teachers, who joined the activity through the English singing contest.

As part of the celebration of English Day UDEC Soacha, “SINGING, KARAOKE & MUSIC VIDEO CONTESTS”, ,Organized by the English teachers Rosa Delia Acosta, Cristián Serrano and Andrés Galvis with the collaboration of students from the English I, II, and III thematic core, an event was held that sought to promote the use of the English language as an element of communication in different academic scenarios, through playful-cultural and recreational activities that strengthened the oral comprehension and expression skills achieved by the students in learning the foreign language.

Among the activities, the English song contest stands out; “The Voice UDEC Soacha”, “Popular Music Video Contest”, and “Staff Karaoke Contest”, with the participation of more than 600 students, teachers and administrative staff.

The day began with a performance by the band "The Chirries." Meanwhile, the English III students found and coached some staff members to sing in English throughout the day.

In addition, a video parody contest was held featuring Colombian popular music, with lyrics translated from Spanish to English. The goal was to offer contestants an opportunity to exercise their creativity and communication and digital skills through technological tools, using social media.

To give prominence and visibility to the more than 15 videos that represented each group, a Facebook page was created where the best videos were uploaded to compete and choose the 3 videos with the most "LIKES".

In this way, students, faculty, and staff practiced English in a context of recreation, games, and art. Clearly, the university continues to promote a culture of bilingualism.
