José María Martínez Beltrán is professor emeritus at the Pontifical University of Salamanca and at the St. Pius X Higher Institute in Madrid. With a doctorate in Educational Sciences, he has dedicated many years to developing materials for constructing critical thinking, compiled in the two programs ARPA (Activities to Reinforce Learning Potential) and COLOTLI (Activities for Building Critical Thinking). This week he visited the Fusagasugá campus of the University of Cundinamarca, where he spoke with teachers from the social sciences program, sharing his main premise: To educate is to build critical thinking.
Martínez Beltrán, who is touring the country's main universities, has as his main expectation to help improve Colombian education through activities that help build the thinking of children and young people so that they are innovative and creative.
Biography
José María Martínez Beltrán was born in Lodosa (Navarra). He studied Educational Sciences in Barcelona, earned a doctorate in Salamanca, and a master's degree in Education in Chicago. His professional life has always been dedicated to teaching: children, teenagers, teachers, and, for many years now, at the San Pío X Higher Education Center in Madrid. He has combined teaching with research on topics such as creativity, educational guidance, and attention to learning processes.
Some of his works include: “Pedagogy of Creativity” (Madrid, 1976), “The Educator and Their Guiding Role” (Madrid, 1980), “Creativity: The Lost Intelligence?” (Madrid, 1986), and “Mediation in the Learning Process” (Madrid, 1994).
